Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located numerous other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior political figure said the attack rendered him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
