2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Transition Comes After Poor Response
The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last fall.
Recently, 2K president a key figure informed team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the need for a distinct vision.
Ismailer stated that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to satisfy community desires.
Trend of Key Hires
The news mirrors a comparable move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.
Below is the entire content from the president's announcement:
Dear Team—
I know you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a message, I expressed the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative creators we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that partnership to continue.”
Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It confirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had improvements to make. It revealed the need for a clearer brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the criticism to mind and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s poised to fulfill its ambition to our audience.
Our confidence in this project increases every day. To further the outstanding development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome the new hire as the new Studio Head of 31st Union. Following a period of discussions, Ben officially joins us on next week.
His guidance and background in the PVP shooter field is considerable, having devoted the last 15 years developing and overseeing some of the most popular series in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in welcoming Ben in the coming days. We are all eager to keep witnessing the development of the game in the weeks to follow.
David
